Why use a sheep ultrasound machine to scan your sheep?
Scanning pregnant ewes with B-ultrasound machines is a direct management practice that can improve lambing rates by helping farmers manage the needs of pregnant ewes.
This also means that you can manage dry ewes more effectively by reintroducing, selling, or raising them as wool producing flocks, requiring less feed and allowing for more intensive stocking.
If you don't know the pregnancy status of your sheep, dry ewes will compete with pregnant ewes for feed, which wastes resources and is not conducive to lambing rate.
When should you scan?
If you only scan the pregnancy status (wet or dry ewes), you can scan the sheep 35 to 40 days after removing the ram.
When scanning single or twin ewes (multiple), the recommended time is 80 to 100 days after the ewe becomes pregnant. After 100 days, it is difficult to distinguish between a single fetus and multiple fetuses. According to the scanning results, the feed feeding amount can be adjusted to meet the nutritional needs of multiparous ewes.
