Things to note when using B-ultrasound to examine dairy cows

Cows are large and have solid chest walls. Therefore, when using B-ultrasound to explore cow organs, cows are selected in a standing and binding posture. The fat layer of the cow body is wide and thick, and the sound wave energy decays faster. In order to make up for this defect, the acquisition frequency is lowered while ensuring clear imaging. When exploring abdominal organs, a frequency of 2.5-4.2MHz is usually used. The exploration depth at this time is 20-30cm. If the acquisition frequency is lowered further, the obtained sonogram will become blurred. Based on this, the ultrasonic surface of the cow that can be explored needs to be close to the abdominal wall, and the organs are substantial or have less gas in the contents and the structural level is conducive to observation and distinction. In order to minimize the attenuation of sound waves, more comprehensive preparation is required in the early stage. In the preparation stage, the hair between the ribs should be shaved as much as possible, and the grease on the skin surface should be wiped off with alcohol. The B-ultrasound mixture for cattle is evenly applied to the skin surface, and the probe is close to the abdominal wall. There should be no tiny bubbles in the mixture to minimize the loss of sound waves on the body surface and allow more sound wave energy to reach the tissues and organs. The organs of dairy cows are of different sizes and properties, so when exploring, the settings of various parameters are flexibly changed according to different operating parts and explored organs, and multiple exploration methods such as horizontal scanning, longitudinal scanning, and sliding exploration are comprehensively applied in specific parts. B-ultrasound for cattle uses section exploration technology. During the exploration process, the operator plays a decisive role in the imaging effect of the ultrasound image. A slight error in the angle of the probe may lead to the omission of the lesion. Therefore, in order to scan the body more proficiently and comprehensively, the operator must go through a large number of meticulous actual case operations and have a detailed understanding of its anatomical structure. Long-term accumulation of learning and rich experience are essential for the application of ultrasound exploration technology.
