Diagnosis of Follicle Atrophy in Dairy Cows by Veterinary Ultrasound

2024-09-12 15:11:13 Visits:

Ovarian atrophy and alternate development in cows are both diseases of ovarian dysfunction where follicles cannot develop and mature normally to ovulation. On animal B-ultrasound, it can be seen that the degree of follicular development on the ovaries is insufficient, and the size does not reach the size of mature follicles. This situation often occurs in cows and yellow cattle with high milk production, weakened physical condition, and long-term feeding in cold regions. This disease is also common in horses and donkeys that are in heat in early spring.

The main factors causing follicular atrophy and alternate development in dairy cows are the influence of climate and temperature. Seasonal estrus animals are unable to adapt to the changing environment of their gonads during the transition from non breeding season to breeding season; Cows and yellow cattle raised in cold regions for a long time, with low temperature and poor insulation conditions in the cowshed, large temperature changes, simple feed, insufficient nutrients, and insufficient exercise, can all cause follicular development disorders. So when influenced by these factors, it is necessary to use veterinary ultrasound to monitor the follicles on the ovaries.

For animals with follicular atrophy and alternate development, improving feeding management and increasing exercise can reduce the burden on working livestock with changes in temperature. Supplementing with fresh grass and malt can promote the recovery of the estrus cycle.
