Do a good job of labor assistance. Before the mother dog gives birth, the delivery room should be cleaned and disinfected, and clean straw should be placed to allow the mother dog to adapt to the delivery room environment in advance. The vulva of the mother dog showing signs of delivery should be cleaned, or the pregnancy status should be checked using an animal B-ultrasound machine. Use an animal B-ultrasound machine to monitor the delivery process of the mother dog in real time. For mother dogs with dystocia, artificial delivery should be performed. If necessary, caesarean section should be performed in time.
Strengthen postpartum care. After the mother dog gives birth, the contaminated straw should be replaced in time, the vulva, tail and breasts should be washed with warm water, the umbilical cord stump of the puppy should be disinfected with iodine, and the weak puppy should be placed on the nipple with sufficient milk in the back abdomen. The mother dog should be prevented from squeezing the weak puppy with inconvenient movement. For the puppy showing "pseudo-death" symptoms, the amniotic fluid should be sucked and the body should be wiped in time to wake it up, and the animal B-ultrasound machine should be used to observe its condition; at the same time, the kennel should be well insulated and moisture-proof, and outsiders should be prevented from visiting to reduce stimulation to the mother dog and the puppies.
Carefully care for puppies. The milk secreted by the mother dog one week after giving birth is colostrum, which is nutritionally balanced and rich in immunoglobulins. Therefore, after the puppies are born, they should be taken care of to eat colostrum as soon as possible. At the same time, in order to ensure the balanced growth of the puppies and prevent the weak puppies from not being able to eat or eating insufficient milk, the puppies should be artificially assisted to fix the nipples in the first few days, and an animal B-ultrasound machine should be used to observe the breast condition of the mother dog.
Timely supplement milk and feed. The peak period of milk secretion of the mother dog is 10-20 days. As the age of the puppies increases, the mother's milk will generally appear relatively insufficient from the 20th day. Failure to supplement milk or feed in time will cause the puppies to develop poorly. For puppies with many puppies and early milk deficiency, milk can be appropriately supplemented. Starting from the 20th day, the puppies can be supplemented with feed, and the development of their digestive system should be observed using an animal B-ultrasound machine. In the early stage of supplementing feed, easily digestible paste foods such as milk and egg yolk should be fed. As the age increases, bone soup and complete feed can be gradually added.
